Dos and Don'ts in Computational Linguistics Conference Papers

Topic Area: Genre analysis: Computational linguistics conference paper
Keywords: conference paper, advice, general structure, meta linguistics
Abstract:
Through comparison of scientific papers from different disciplines, I
try to accentuate the generic structure of a paper in computational
linguistics. Although most conferences supply a template document to
ensure a similar presentation of all submitted papers, there is very
little information about the way the semantic content should be
organized. This is especially problematic for people who write their
first paper. I supply advice on what should be included in a paper, at
which position, what should better be left out. A set of dos and don'ts
complete a presentation of a paper's structure.
