Press release: When Mulder and Scully shadow a killer who leaves no clues, Scully finds herself enthralled by Mulder's prime suspect.

The title is Spanish and Filipino for "miracle".

One of the neighbors in Mulder's apartment building is writing his life story with horrific results. One of his written creations, a near-lookalike of the writer, comes to life and kills with "psychic surgery" by removing the victims' hearts.

From the Official X-Files Magazine: "When they return from the break, Dana Scully will face off with a killer who has the unfortunate habit of ripping the still-beating hearts from the chests of his victims. For now, Anderson lies on the ground, sobbing and clinging to co-star David Duchovny, until director Kim Manners yells, 'Cut' for the final time, sending everyone in search of sustenance."

"Born from a collaboration between executive producer Frank Spotnitz and writer/producer John Shiban, the episode introduces fans to Mulder's next door neighbor, Phillip Padgett, who holds a strange power over the events about which he writes and harbors an unhealthy fixation with Scully that is not entirely unrequited. While Mulder stumbles onto a series of unexplained murders, Scully meets the amorous Padgett, who has left a medallion bearing the insignia of the sacred her at the door to the basement office she shares with Mulder. As the investigation continues, Scully become drawn inside the writer's world, possibly embarking on a fatal attraction."

"One of the key themes running through the episode is the dynamic nature of Mulder and Scully's relationship. During the course of the episode, Mulder must confront his feelings of jealousy toward Padgett, and Scully must examine her own emotions, specifically, whether or not she can allow another man into her life."

Shiban is quoted as saying, "As always, we're committed to their relationship remaining of a certain type, but we wanted to get to the whole issue of love, which comes to the forefront in 'Milagro'." He goes on to comment, "That's what the main character wants and that's what Scully sort of wants and maybe doesn't know it but realizes through this man that she might already have it. She might have the perfect love and that love doesn't have to be sexual and marriage and relationship. There are other kinds of love that are just as fulfilling. I think we've done a great job of tantalizing, yet keeping Mulder and Scully still themselves, keeping true to their characters."
