Notes
This is one of those "clip" shows, as they're called, not
really an episode. I've included it here as it did address some interesting points. Good
way to get the fans up to date, as the other two specials of this kind were at the time
they were shown. It was far too detailed an hour to try and convey here, but I have
selected some good quotes below to give you an idea.
One of the most shocking scenes, to me, was seeing our beloved Mr. X
wearing 2, count 'em, 2 long dangly earrings! Steven, honey, not a good look for ya babe,
unless there's something you'd like to tell us ;-)
I didn't transcribe it all, but the clip with actress Laurie Holden
(Marita) pretty much confirms the rumours, she's not long for the world. I shan't sully
the page with my catty comments, let's just say I grinned from ear-to-ear!
The promised bloopers weren't much, really, mostly the crew (Gillian
especially) laughing and blowing their lines. From what I've heard, most of their bloopers
can't be shown in prime time television ... that's just what I've heard, you understand
...
I didn't attempt to transcribe the full movie preview, just the one
good scene with Mulder and Martin Landau. Best look-see at the movie we've had so far, and
I have my fingers and toes crossed that it's half as exciting as it looks.
Telling scene that ended up being cut from broadcast (and is
transcribed below) where Bill Scully, Jr. comes to see Scully in Memento Mori. First off,
the writers seem to have conveniently forgotten that invisable brother, Charles, has kids
(see the pig scene in Home where Scully had to babysit her nephews, watching
"Babe"), and this "new" scene confirms to me that Bill is a JERK! I
don't know what the boy's problem is, but Mr. Warmth he ain't.
And finally, yet most importantly ...
A fine romance with no kisses
A fine romance my friend this is ...
A fine romance you won't nestle
A fine romance you won't wrestle ...
True love should have the thrills that a healthy crime has
We don't have half the thrills that "The March Of Time"
has
from Jerome Kern/ Dorothy Fields' "A Fine Romance"
special thanks to mary greten for making the connection!
Great song for our duo, huh? Did you catch the Detour ref with,
"A fine romance you won't wrestle"? And how about "a healthy crime"?
Perfect, thanks again, mary.
Here it is in black and white from Chris Carter himself, gang,
"Scully loves Mulder, and Mulder loves Scully." It's probably been said in print
before, but the way they conveyed it here, with the clips and the words, was a lovely
testament to the bond the agents have. The part that really touched me was David's
comments about Scully being Mulder's human credential. What a beautiful thought, call me a
sentimental fool.
Quotes
____________________
we watch the root beer/iced tea scene from Tooms (there are many
clips shown here, too many to explain, I'm just leaving in important ones, in my opinion)
Sheila Larken: "It sounds cliche to say that they're best
friends, but they're best friends beyond
what lovers could ever be."
Chris Carter: "Scully loves Mulder, and Mulder loves Scully.
It's a wonderful romance. It's just not a
sexual romance. It's not a physical romance. It is a caring, tender,
respectful relationship. It's an ideal, and I would never want to do anything to threaten
it, to change it."
Gillian Anderson: "One of the things that keeps people watching
and keeps the aliveness between us, are those moments where there is that intimacy. Where
even just the touch of a hand can be the same as making love in another series."
as David speaks, we see the hallway scene from Memento Mori ... why
couldn't they show us the kiss we know was cut? Why, God, why?!
David Duchovny: "It's like the one friend, I guess, that he has
in the world. I mean, I heard a phrase once, somebody was talking about their wife. This
was a person who was very inept socially, not the wife but the man. There were many things
said about him that weren't kind, and he said, 'My wife, who is lovely and social and
everything like that, is my human credential.' And, like, makes him a human being, because
people think, well, if *she* can stand him, he must have some humanity within him and
sometimes I think about Scully as Mulder's human credential.
It's the only thing that makes him not crazy in many ways."
we watch the ending scene from Paper Hearts where Scully gives a
Mulder a head hug ... awwww
with flashes of Mulder and Cancer Man's scuffle in the hallway from
Talitha Cumi being shown
David Duchovny: "Bill Davis told me that he believes that *he*
is the hero of the show."
William B. Davis: "Well, I think it's obvious that CSM is the
hero of the show. Surely, (laughs) surely it's obvious to everyone? I mean, Mulder's so
impetuous, always flying off the handle, he's always waving his gun around. I mean, what
kind of responsible citizen is he? (all spoken with a lovely gleam in his eyes, a smirk on
his lips) CSM is always thoughtful, thinks things through, delegates responsibility ... I
mean, clearly he has a handle on what's going on."
now we see the "Quit the FBI. Come work for me." scene
from Redux 2
David Duchovny: "So that's Bill Davis' point-of-view on the
character, and I guess, you know, whatever makes it easier for you to sleep at night,
CSM." (nods his head, smiling)
we're shown Cancer Man's "assassination" scene from Redux
2, reminding us that he's supposed to be dead ... take note, kids, that will become
important in the series soon ;-)
scene from the upcoming movie with actor Martin Landau (Space:1999,
remember that one?) and Mulder standing in what looks like an alley, Landau's agitated and
whispering loudly
Mulder:"Plague?"
Martin Landau: "Plague to end all plagues, Agent Mulder. A
silent weapon for a quiet war.
A systematic release of an indiscriminate organism for which the men
who will
bring it on still have no cure! They've been working on this for 50
years! While the
rest of the world have been fighting gooks and commies, these men
have been
we see a brief hug and kiss from the cutting room floor, Scully's
boyfriend from The Pilot, previously unseen
Chris Carter: "I felt the stories needed to drive the
characters and their work needed to drive them. That their work was all-consuming and that
they actually had no personal lives. But their ... this was a quest, a romantic quest, in
the literary sense."
another missing scene, this one from Memento Mori, where we were
supposed to meet Bill Scully, Jr. for the first time. Scully's lying down in her hospital
bed, looking awful, and Bill is standing beside her in full uniform, his hat in one hand,
he takes her hand in his
Bill: "Dana?"
Scully (she wakes up and looks at him, surprised): "Bill?"
(she starts to sit up)
(we see a brief comment by actress Sheila Larken saying that time
wouldn't allow the scene stay)
Bill: "You look good."
Scully (laughs): "Thank you."
Bill: "Charles is ... sorry he couldn't make it, he'll call you
tonight, if you're feeling up to it."
Scully: "Sad cause for a family reunion." (pause as
neither speaks)
Bill: "Oh, did Mom tell ya? Get new orders, NAS Miramar, Dad's
old stomping grounds."
Scully: "That's great! Huh ... (Bill is nodding with a frozen
semi-smile on his face) Yeah, I was ...
umm ... I was out there not long ago. Lot of old memories."
Bill (not looking at her): "Yeah. Lot of ghosts now ... Dad ...
Melissa ... (the tight smile returns as
he looks at her) Mom's gettin' worried there's gonna be noone to
carry on the Scully name.
Guess the pressure's on, huh?" (she turns to look at him, her
face very serious)
