In Memory of Tammy K. Riever - by Paige Klassen

I knew who you were,
But we weren't really friends.
It's hard to believe
Your life has come to an end.

I see you in my mind,
Walking down the hall.
Or sliding into third base
In a race with a softball.

You had just graduated!
Spring of this year.
I had just seen you,
And now, you're not here.

You had so much ahead of you,
So much you hadn't done.
But now, you can't do those things
Because of a night that started as fun.

How could it end?
So quickly - so fast.
You didn't know that car ride
Would be your very last.

Now all we have
Are memories of you.
You'll be in our hearts
In whatever we do.

The lovely woman-child Kaa was mercilessly chained to the cruel post of
the warrior-chief Beast, with his barbarian tribe now stacking wood at
her nubile feet, when the strong clear voice of the poetic and heroic
Handsomas roared, 'Flick your Bic, crisp that chick, and you'll feel my
steel through your last meal!'
Winning sentence, 1984 Bulwer-Lytton bad fiction contest.
